About Biloela

The bustling rural town of Biloela is nestled in the centre of the Callide Valley, a rich agricultural area. Coal mines, power stations, and meatworks contribute to the town's broad economic base.

The township was surveyed in association with the railway line and first settled in 1924. The government set up a display farm close by, hoping the growing populous would develop the town and it sure did that.

The post WWII years were the kindest of all, Biloela becoming home to an ever widening, multi-cultural community, servicing big business, government and industry bodies, cooperatives, and small business as well as the rural and mining sectors that surround it.

Within easy reach are Callide Dam, a venue for boating and fishing and the Callide Mine Lookout. Mount Scoria, one of Australia's most interesting mountains is only 5 minutes drive. Its name comes from scoriaceous basalt, a type of volcanic rock which has taken the form of the fingers of an outstretched hand. When the 'fingers' are struck they produce a musical sound.
